Given it is not sold by then I am going to look at a sweet Skoda this weekend. The famous 1.8T - 180hp VAG engine that powered numerous cars can be mine. Even if not as powerful as my CLK 280, I really need a fun DD, which I can easily convert to LPG for that sweet economy.

A friend have the little less powerfull 150hp version of this engine in another Octavia and is a hoot to drive. Sadly I can’t find decent wagons in this configuration, because I can really use the space for my camping gear/trips/usable sex space :D.

Still it is a grea offer at around $3800 for under 150k km if real.

Look at the bright side: the 5door’s trunk is still amazingly huge.

I’ve had a SEAT with the same engine for 6.5 years, and it proved to be really reliable. I put 90k kilometres in it (156k in total on the odo), and I just did the first “major” repair: a couple of gaskets, including a valve cover gasket due to a minor oil leak. It was really just a small leak, so there was no urgent intervention needed, but I wanted to sort the problem out, and the timing belt needed to be replaced anyway, so I decided to have them fixed together.

Apart from that, two thermostats and a coolant temperature sensor were all the issues I had with the engine.

The termostast looks like a really stupid issue on those engines, I don’t know a person with one of those that haven’t replaced it at least once. Also the engines can be rather leaky, so I will be extra careful.
